MUNICH, Germany: This year, the 136th Congress of the German Society of Surgery (DGCH) invites you to Munich under the motto, "Full steam ahead - with heart, hand and mind!" The annual conference will take place from 26 to 29 March 2019 in the International Congress Center. The event will address a range of current topics for physicians from clinics and practices of all surgical specialties, employees in the nursing and surgical services as well as those in administration.

The program has been designed in consultation with the presidents of the participating surgical societies. The interdisciplinary meetings will be given a lot of space, as they best reflect the clinical reality in hospitals and clinics and promote the exchange of ideas beyond the boundaries of the disciplines, according to the DGCH. The "Session Triple", which is dedicated to the focal points of "guideline-oriented therapy", "tips and tricks" and "complication management", is intended to present current topics in a compact, evidence-based but at the same time experience-modulated manner. Video and poster sessions, courses, workshops, satellite symposia, the surgical training laboratory and the student forum will address the various interests of all participants in a proven manner.

A special highlight of the congress will be the organ donation run. With this run and the participation not only of congress participants, but also of prominent personalities from competitive sports, politics, society and the public interested in the run, the DGCH will provide an unmistakable voice to this task for society as a whole.

On Thursday of the congress week the DGCH, together with the DGAV, the DGKCH, the DGG and the DGT, will invite attendees to a joint festive evening at a venue. The location and framework of the festive evening should give you ample opportunity to cultivate contacts and make new friends in a relaxed atmosphere away from the scientific programme.

For the first time, the DGCH will host the Sultanate of Oman, a partner country from the Arab culture. For decades, Arabic patients have been successfully treated in top clinical institutions in Germany. But the expertise of German surgeons is also highly valued in their own local clinics. In addition, many colleagues from Arabic countries in Germany have successfully completed further surgical training and more will follow.
